Trump University Scam

Trump University is the name of a business Donald Trump owned and operated a few years ago. Its name has changed for legal reasons to Trump Entrepreneur Initiative LLC, but it has largely ceased to operate as of 2010. The business' purpose was to teach students how to use Trump's own techniques to make money buying and selling real estate.



Several lawsuits have been filed against Trump University that allege that the business engaged in illegal practices, specifically making false claims about what would be provided by the school, and racketeering. Students claimed that teachers pressured students who purchased low priced classes to purchase more expensive classes costing more than $30,000. Many times instructors encouraged students they should have known to be unable to take advantage access any real value from the training.

Here is one of Trump's instructors admitting that his job was to sell rather than to teach.

Trump made news recently by criticizing one of the judges overseeing one of the trials. Few were willing to defend his statements.

Funny thing though is that Trump's defenders make a better case against the judge than Trump. Trump's case just looks like a case of racial prejudice (which it is).

Recently Trump was deposed by the lawyers for the plaintiffs on video. This video is currently under seal, but media outlets have appealed that and are asking that it be released to the public. Because the Republican Convention starts next week in Cleveland, it is important for the video to be released soon so that delegates can see if there are any facts there that might weigh against their supporting Trump, but Trump's lawyers are doing everything possible to block the release of the video.

Trump's lawyers argue that releasing the video might make it hard later to find an impartial jury, but that argument is hard to make in view of the public statements that Trump has already made about Judge Curiel.

The blocking of this video looks very much like Trump's refusal to release his recent IRS tax forms.
